This subject was a brief mention in the 2011 tour thread (as I was working on it simultaneously).
I figured THIS would be a perfect place to document it, as this could become my liquid alternative.

It is a CLEAN system, perfect for this age... (no liquids), however effect slides, discs and patterns along with my backdrop movies (DVD/VHS) will still be added, just as I always did before.
BTW, The liquids are still intact & ready for some sessions of filming classic Nektar footage in HD but they needed to be replaced with something equally as effective for any future LIVE dates with anyone.
The difference is that I needed to be able to visually reproduce my rhythmic effects AND follow a guitar or keyboard solo in REAL TIME over my theme depicting backdrops. The PC delays between hands (fingers) and the screen were always the problem.... too many commands at once!
Synchronicity was the goal, and pixelation, millisecond delays or sudden blue screen overloads were all the hurdles that were eventually overcome.  So I knew how to do it... but the equipment required was NOT cheap... and not having anyone to do it WITH.... it just didn't make it worthwhile.
Well the equipment became cheaper (constant upgrades made year old stuff obsolete), then...
enter Groovin' Lumens lightshow and Todd.... he had the projection gear, I had the fingers, so we met!
He had the standard (but good) typical screensaver backdrops... and three projectors.
I superimposed my inputs over his backdrops on just two bands at the Midsummer Meltdown...
this was a hit!... however I needed to make a few changes....... which are happening now.
Thus the rest is ongoing... with our next festival to experiment together in early September, http://jibberjazz.inticketing.com/events/151831 projecting at night,  Friday & Saturday only.

Heres how it started...... with my quote included in
a reply from Bob (NYlifer)........

On my home front, those experiments in projection that I tried at a PA festival last weekend were a huge success, so patience may actually be a rewarding virtue for all... as recent advances in digital projection finally became MY "real time" non-liquid possibility (not pre-recorded loops)... so my "on the fly jamming" of visual effects are again going where they should be, & almost ready to rock!
Visual synchronicity to unknown music was my test... as "playing" these effects to known music AND a set-list gives this system phenominal potential to become the new abstract layers over my backdrops.
Although there is some hesitant delay (I'd never seen this band before), the essence and feel are present.
Stay tuned as I tweak the lightshow inputs before our next 3-day music festival in early September.
M.

BRILLIANT MICK! Any more outings scheduled? I'd've attended if I'd've known! What's this 3 day fest?
Peace, Bob

Bob, My next "outing" is at "The Meeting of the Minds" festival near Poyntelle, Pennsylvania (way up above Scranton)... It runs September 9th-11th. I only get paid for gas and get free burgers, but I do these fests close to home to keep my hand in and play/experiment with some of the newer projection developments.  I play onto the main stage from dusk 'til midnight Friday & Saturday alongside my buddy Todd who runs Groovin Lumens lightshow... so I'm almost like a "guest artist". The audience loves it, the bands love it, Todd loves it.. and I love it.... and I only have to bring a laptop, plug it in and play it... he has all the rest, so I help him with the other stages & stage lites!

I don't even know which two bands I'll be doing yet (or their style)... but It's fun... and a getaway!

NYlifer replied.......

GREAT! I hope to be there. The JibberJazz guys do good things! The headliner, Anders Osborne is a MONSTER guitar player. Ulu is good and dancy, Juggling Suns is Grateful Dead. Do you camp, or do they offer beds to the talent?
Peace, Bob

MickBee replied....

That's why I like it.. the people are cool and the "unknown" musical talent is usually F'in great!
Last time I went alone, so I slept in my car... this time, I dunno, I'll play it by ear... BUT as it's only about 50 miles from home, I may just return home then go back on Saturday... we'll see!

OK, about 600 people managed to get through flooded roads and closed bridges up to Poyntelle PA for the Meeting of the Minds festival last night (Friday). The sun came out early to dry the area, and a great time was had by all. Once again, the light shows became a big attraction after sunset (two stages had projections) and I supplemented the main arena all evening with various experiments in e-likwids to complement the great music on stage.
Tonight, Saturday, ULU is playing. We expect well over a thousand people to gather in the campgrounds for non-stop music rotating through the three stages. The flood waters have all receeded around the area overnight, and being at over 2000 feet, very little impacted the secluded site anyway.
A huge variety of different food vendors are serving non-stop,,, and all are good.
The Saturday admissions have a reduced rate, so that's a good deal for non-stop entertainment today thru Sunday afternoon.
From Midnight thru 7am the music is all inside a 500 capacity hall (about 240 stayed for Juggling Suns late last night) and this allows those camping around the main stage to get some sleep (if they want to).  I'll be back in Poyntelle to conduct more visual experiments tonight!

More complex effects were added last night, while the initial manual sequences from prior shows (see earlier link) were shortened and thus became less repetetive. The kinks have been worked out to the point that this overlay section of the show is finally ready enough for the road.... one hand, no inks, with five totally different effects to synchronize the rhythm and/or solos and moods in real time... meaning that spur of the moment jams and changes are still followed almost note for note, plus they are better (and much easier to manipulate) than my original liquid interpretations.
Last nights' experimental show became the main backdrop for three seperate bands in Poyntelle.
Many thanks to Todd (Groovin' Lumens) and William (W-NTI) for allowing my input via their projection equipment.  A few switching upgrades will create a multi-layer final result with less gear (and space) than before, although four video projectors with dual inputs will be needed to transmit my complete layered presentation onto the screens, this would become just one more layer at my disposal for certain pieces in which this effect would be suitable.... http://www.youtube.com/user/groovinlumens#p/u/3/Qo6HTYNUF3A
BTW,  there are other video segments for comment regarding the 9-9-11 & 9-10-11 bands we did.

On Friday Sept 27th thru Sunday 29th 2014 this years' "Meeting of the Minds" festival will be hosted at the Wyoming County Fairgrounds on the banks of the Susquehanna river in Meshoppen PA.
27 bands, three stages, and more experimental visuals care of myself with Illumenatrix will commence at dusk on the main stage.
Let's hope we have our "Indian Summer" so that the weather holds 'til then,  CU there?.

As I'm now cleared by my heart doctor to drive, I WILL be doing the projections for Illumenatrix at the NINTH "Some Kinda Jam" 3-day music & camping festival at the Shuylkill Haven fairgrounds near Reading Pennsylvania in TWO WEEKS... April 25th-27th. http://www.jibberjazz.com/home.html
Also, I'll be doing the backdrop for "MadSummer Meltdown #5" with the Ozric Tentacles
(at the same venue) June 27th-29th 2014.
Illumenatrix is a stage lighting company owned by Big Todd, so I'll be running  apps, effects and the backdrop projections in my syncopated fashion, very similar to my E-Likwids and as always, because we have not heard the music of the bands who appear... very "experimental".
I AM looking forward to the Ozrics show in June, 'cos their music I now know...so hopefully I'll get a setlist before the show, which will visualize the songs SO much better lol.

Wow, It's great to hear you are recovering so well Mick. You are One tough cookie!!
So this is good news you are doing the visuals for the Ozrics again. Is there a specific
night the Ozrics are performing? There is a good possibility I may be able to attend that
weekend.

All the best.
Scott
